PhD Woman Support and Recovery Toning Vanilla Creme - £21.59 (here)
PhD Woman Support and Recovery Toning Bar Chocolate Orange - £17.88 (here)
PhD Woman Shaker Cup - £4.99 (here)
Seeing as I am now back on a health kick I thought it was a perfect time to tell you about some of my favourite not so bad treats!  When I start a new fitness regime or diet plan I end up really going for it and then I either get to where I want to be or my social and work life gets in the way and I fall off the wagon.

Yes, I know - it should be a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix etc.  One day I will get to that stage but I am human and I struggle with self discipline.  I'm guessing I am not the only one out their and I have SERIOUS respect for all those of you that eat clean and healthy all the time - you are my inpso.

Anyway! PhD Woman specialise in providing protein products especially for females knowing that obviously our goals are not always the same as mens!

So when I was stocking up on protein (not quite but re-venturing into the world of protein shakes etc) earlier this year when trying a new intensive strength training plan, I really researched what would work for me and what I wanted, which was quite a lot of protein without a shed load of carbs because no matter what I eat it always seems I have a carb heavy diet despite my best efforts!

I found PhD Woman and had a read up of them here.  I found they had loads of tips and meal plans etc (here) and decided I was going to try these products. (They also have some fabulous offers on and I managed to catch one at the time!)  I chose the Toning range which aims to help with recovery.  There is also a weight control and energy range.

I like to have these on days when I might not be getting enough protein and I know some people say why can't you just eat it, but if you are training a lot you'd never stop eating chicken to get the recommended amount and sorry but chicken gets boring!

The vanilla creme is absolutely delightful.  Tastes like custard!  I like to have it alone with water and ICE, or for breakfast blended with strawberries or bananas!  Absolute heaven in a cup!

The bars are also lovely.  They do have that protein bar texture which I can't quite describe but I'd say dense… You will understand if you try.  I have to say I don't mind that texture though so it's not a negative.  I usually break it up into little pieces and savour!

Finally, the cup is just super handy and I better size than those huge ones you usually get. Somehow it just feels more feminine also.  I've not had to explain to people whether or not I am drinking protein like it's some crazy thing since having this cup which is also a bonus!

I would definitely recommend all these products and I will be repurchasing when I run out.  Even if you don't want to buy anything though I would definitely recommend the website as it's super informative!

Happy fitness ladies!

This is gross isn't it.

So I have lost 14lbs so far.  So that's quite a lot of that gooey yellowy stuff.

Soooo pleased! Only another to go!

It's taken me 7 weeks and I've been following weight watchers which is working really well so far!

Hopefully soon I will be back to this...

Sunday, 8 July 2012

Hey ladies! Hope you are enjoying your Sunday afternoon.   I am!  I have just booked a holiday to Sensatori in Egypt - can't freaking wait because it looks like this...

And yes, I have booked a swim up room.

Hello amazing holiday destination!

Anyway... moving on to weight loss

So since starting my blog I have gained a lot of weight.  I am talking 32 lbs - which is over 2 stone if you aren't sure.  On my tiny body that's a lot and it makes me unhappy, which was making me eat more and then I am more unhappy etc etc.

So as soon as my birthday was done I started weight watchers.  So now I am following the pro points system which is a bit different to when I have done it before but so far so good.

In fact super good as I lost 6 lbs in my first week!!!

I literally could not believe it as the most I have ever lost in a week before is 3.5 lbs!!!

So now I am excited because it has given me the motivation to keep going.  I know it is only week two but if each week I can lose weight I will be happy.

I don't know if any of you are following weight watchers but I find this to be a good diet. You get a weekly as well as daily points allowance so this allows you to have treats at the weekend, or if you have a social event for example.  I've been sharing some Ben and Jerry's with the boyf for mine!

I may have also had some wine...

It seems to work though so it's a diet without feeling like you are totally starving yourself and because I am an absolute foodie that is essential to me!

Anyway, I will keep you posted with how I do but my main goal is to lose the remaining 26 lbs before I go on holiday which will take me back down to what I consider to be my normal and healthy weight.

Wish me luck!

Hey lovelies!!

As a preliminary to a weight loss post I will be posting very shortly here is what I am currently drinking to satisfy my sweet tooth come 10.30-11.00am...

Yes, it's weight watchers time!!! I am currently sipping on their 1 pro point a cup hot choc and let me tell you it's delish!

The process? Add water to 3 tea spoons of the chocolately powder and stir and voila! Hot chocolate in an instant without annoying bumpy, impossible to dissolve, powdery bits that you can get with some other low fat hot chocolate drinks no matter how much you stir!

Also - it actually tastes like hot chocolate and not like you're drinking chocolate flavoured water!!

I like my hot chocolate to be rich and creamy - whilst this isn't the thickest hot chocolate I've ever had - it's definitely a really good instant low fat option. Whether I was dieting or not I'd be drinking this as an instant option.

And lets not forget to mention that ordinarily a hot chocolate can be well over 3 points so this is great!!

For those of you on weight watchers I'd recommend you try it as it's good for satisfying cravings and means you don't have to sacrifice nice drinks all the time! (I find water pretty boring after a while and there's only so much diet coke I want to drink!)

For the rest of you I'd say give it a go if you like a bit of instant hot choc - after all it's not like summer will ever arrive!!

So first and foremost... Welcome new followers and thank you for sticking around faithfuls whilst I have been MIA. As some of you will already know - I was taking a much needed break from all forms of technology in the lead up to and during xmas and new year. Life just got a bit too hectic. Now I am back and would like to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ok so it's that time of year where I've done a little too much over-indulging (vino and food) and it's therefore only right that I put an immediate stop to it.

You see, as some of you will remember from my earlier post, around a year ago I finished my weight loss journey 30lbs lighter than when I embarked on the same and it was truly one of the best (if not the best) experiences in my life.

I changed my approach to food and did between 3.5 - 7 miles walking everyday. It was not just about how I looked (but that was of course a major factor) but also how different I felt.

Now without boring you all too much about how great and motivated I felt I will move onto the more recent part of this story. The part where I have begun to slip into my old ways. Eating out, drinking, sweets, chocolate and full fat ice cream and cakes...

And no, I can't blame it on Christmas because that would mean I'd been celebrating Christmas for around 3 months now!

What I do blame it on however is the fact that I am still getting used to commenting for 2 hours each day, along with working in a place that does not allow microwaves, kettles and toasters due to health and safety!

Yes - gone are my porridge and weight watchers soup days. Sadly replaced by jam covered bagels and deep filled chicken and avocado pret a manger sandwiches. It's a wonder I have only gained 6 lbs! But I can't kid myself - really it's more like 8lbs if I think of the weight I was when I went to NYC last may.

Hmmmmm, that's over half a stone and when you're 5 foot nothing not only does that make a definite difference but it also marks the start of an uphill climb back to unhealthy land.

So I have therefore decided to put a stop to all my weak willed antics! And began today. I have been really good and have no intention of slipping. Which is why I refuse to call this a new years resolution. If I did I wouldn't even last the day.

So the next thing I need to tackle is my lack of exercise.

And I mean useful exercise that actually makes the lbs drop off, we can all walk to the shops at lunch and convince ourself it's us being active! But I can no longer do my walking due to the time I get in and don't really want to pay for a gym when

A) I just don't enjoy sweating in front of other people and breathing in all their germs these days -and;
B) I cannot see me actually going given I have like 2-3 hours to do everything if I'm lucky when I get home in evening (as well as trying to see the boyf, family and friends)

Any suggestions (workout DVDs with actual results?) are more than welcome and I would love to hear them.

Hopefully I will one day look like this again!!!! (with better taste in bikinis!!)

However in the meantime, I really must find a seat on the train while I think about how hungry I am, carry my long umbrella, handbag (giving me a bad back) on one arm whilst trying to read, blog on my phone and keep my balance with the other.

Who says I'm not active!! Haha...

Finally, I have got around to doing this post...

Quite a few of you lovely followers requested that I do a post on my weight loss, following my post in which revealed that I had recently lost 30 lbs. Basically I put on 30lbs whilst studying 3 years undergrad and then working full time whilst doing postgrad for 2 years following this.

Rather than go into an essay like post about this I thought that I would basically outline what I did, how long it took and show you some before and after pictures.

If you want any more information at the end of this post you can email me at giddyprincess@gmail.com or leave a message in the chat box at the top right of my page.

How did I lose the weight?

I had on numerous occasions decided I was going to eat healthily in the past and the most I had lost was around 6lbs, as I wasn't really dedicated and didn't really know what I was doing.

This time was different. Basically I had seen quite a few pictures where I didn't recognise myself anymore and felt that my health was beginning to suffer due to me entering the unhealthy weight range within my BMI. (You can calculate your Body Mass Index here.)

I took myself off to a weight watchers meeting near my house and begun the Discover Plan. To do this I paid £17.95/month for an online plan which also allowed me to go to meetings each week locally and get weighed.

Many of you have probably heard of weight watchers, but in case you have not the plan allocates a you number of points per day, determined by your weight, height and lifestyle (ie. active or not). As each food has a points value, you are then to try and stick within your points allowance.

Things like many vegatables have a zero points value and as such I found sticking to this plan pretty easy once I got going. To be successful at the plan, I believe that you need to be quite organised with your meals. As I am often out and about I found that I had to stick to similar meals regularly, but this did not bother me as I always ate things I enjoyed and the weight loss each week kept me motivated.

Typically, I ate crumpets with weight watchers jam or weight watchers yogurt for breakfast, weight watchers soup some low point crisps (eg. squares, french fries, snack a jacks) and count on us chocolate mousse for lunch, then a stir fry or meat and roast veg or pasta and a tomato based sauce for evening meal. Not too bad eh!

How long did it take?

I began the journey in September 2009 and reached goal at the beginning of February 2010. I ensured that the weight loss was gradual, but also steady. I lost weight nearly every week and I did not put weight on at all.

This isn't easy and I saw many others struggle with losing a couple of lbs and then putting the same back on the next week, and repeating this cycle a lot. I do believe determination is key in embarking on a journey like this and I kept motivated by setting mini goals of when I wanted to lose so many lbs by.

What I will say is that for the first couple of months I barely drank. To me it just wasn't worth it and I believe this had a massive impact on me having steady weight loss. (Not that I drink a lot generally). In additon, I took up walking 3.5 miles a day, which is my walk from home to work. It takes me 50 minutes. It took me that long queuing in traffic so I was so glad I began walking in the end. And yes, I did it through all the snow and ice. Now that's determination

Tips I would give?

Enjoy it. If you don't see it as a chore and see it as a change in lifestyle, which results in you feeling happy with increased self esteem, you really will succeed. It's all about having a positive mental attitude towards eating better and losing weight. And of course the joy with weight watchers is that if you do have events coming up when you know you will be eating out, drinking etc you can save your points by eating well in the week prior to it. Therefore you don't feel guilty when you do have a bit of a binge.

Where am I now?

I am maintaining the weight loss and finding it pretty easy. I am around a size 6-8 depending on where I shop and wear petite clothes wherever I can. Previously I was around a size 12, which is course pretty average, but with me being small in height (5 foot 1) I was still overweight for my height.
I do eat healthier now but I also have treats most days but I make sure I remain active and if things start to feel a bit tight I don't buy anything new, I eat less and exercise more and find the next week everything feels a good fit again. It really is about changing your lifestyle.

Weight a year ago (heaviest)

I would like to finally add that the reason I felt that this was a necessary path for me to take was because I was always petite and quite athletic in build training in sprints and long jump, whilst also being heavily involved in lots of other sports when I was younger. Therefore I feel much more like my normal self now and quick myself for not having done this sooner. But better late than never.

Hope those of you that were interested found this post useful or informative. I hope I didn't offend anyone and if you do wish to ask any questions about any of it please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sorry it ended up being an essay anyway!!
